Tom Jenkins has been active for 40 years in innovation and economic development in both the private and public sectors. Mr. Jenkins is currently Chair of OpenText™ Corporation (NASDAQ: OTEX, TSX: OTC) of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, a $Billion multinational enterprise software firm and one of the largest software and cloud computing companies in the world. Mr. Jenkins is the Chair of the World Wide Web Foundation. He was the founding Chair of the National Research Council of Canada and was the tenth Chancellor of the University of Waterloo. He is a Commissioner of the Tri-Lateral Commission, an international think tank of business, academia and government dedicated to improving international policy and relationships. He is the founding Chair of the Ontario Global 100, a mentorship group dedicated to the development of high growth companies in Ontario. He is the co-founder of Communitech, the industry based innovation association in Waterloo Region and one of the most successful start up incubators in the world.
Mr. Jenkins is currently a board member of Manulife Financial Corporation. Mr. Jenkins is the co-chair of the Atlantik Bruecke which is a German – Canadian policy forum. He is a commissioner of the Tri-Lateral Commission – an international group of thought leaders that meets throughout the world in Asia, Europe, and North America.
Mr. Jenkins is the founding Co-Chair of the Business Higher Education Roundtable (BHER) that is the co-ordinating body of Canada’s largest employers, largest universities and colleges that has organized a national work integrated learning program. He is the founding Co-Chair with Governor General Advisory Council that established the Governor General of Canada Innovation Awards Program.
Mr. Jenkins received an M.B.A. (York University), an EE M.A.Sc. (University of Toronto) and a B.Eng. & Mgt. in Engineering Physics and Commerce (McMaster University). He is the 2017 Companion of the Canadian Business Hall of Fame (CBHF). He is the recipient of the Distinguished Policy Fellow from the School of Public Policy at the University of Calgary. Mr. Jenkins was awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration (CD), the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal (QDJM) and is an Officer of the Order of Canada (OC).
Mr. Jenkins is active as a philanthropist for the benefit of universities, hospitals, military trusts, historical and cultural organizations and scholarships for disadvantaged students, children of veterans, and recognition of academic achievements.
