Sonny Perdue

Sonny Perdue served as the 31st United States secretary of Agriculture, from 2017 to 2021. A member of the Republican Party, he served as the 81st governor of Georgia from 2003-2011, and as a member of the Georgia State Senate from 1991-2002.

Prior to politics, Perdue earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine and worked as a veterinarian before becoming a small business owner, eventually starting three businesses. He served as the Secretary of Agriculture under the Donald Trump administration.

In April 2022, Perdue became the University System of Georgia’s 14th chancellor.
