In Review: Marketing Workshop with Terry O’Reilly
February 29, 2024 at Glenerin Inn, Mississauga
Two different, yet connected, perspectives were shared on the future of marketing for Canadian businesses with more than 30 senior leaders and CEOs connected to Ontario Global 100.
When planning and preparing for export, should you learn to sail in your own bay before you go the big lake? The data may suggest otherwise, as shared by Charles Plant, Founder of The Narwhal Project. His research focuses on Canadian businesses becoming world class companies in export markets. He challenged our thinking on innovation. Instead of focusing on the product, Canadian business need to switch their thinking to buyer-first mentality, and how marketing and sales can influence behaviour change. Canadian businesses need to understand their export markets and consider investing in talent that is immersed in their target geography.
The ability to transfer an obstacle into an opportunity is a competitive advantage, shared Terry O’Reilly, an award-winning writer and the voice behind Under the Influence. Through his showcase of unique and game-changing advertising campaigns, he encouraged CEOs, marketers and sales leaders to re-think their tactics. Solve problems by taking new and different paths and consider going beyond the traditional mediums of advertising. Attention is the oxygen of marketing, and Terry dared the room to trust their hunches and embrace the uncomfortable when coming up with new marketing and sales strategies. The future belongs to counter-intuitive thinkers, those who transcend their category and break through conventional product-first thinking to inspire their audience.
